New coaching candidate at HSV?
Hamburger SV is looking for a new head coach after parting ways with Tim Walter. Does the traditional club benefit from direct competition?

The traditional club released the Baden native from his position as head coach at HSV on Monday and has been looking for a successor for Walter ever since. The league game in Rostock (2:2) was supervised on Saturday by Merlin Polzin, whose stay as the main person in charge is possible, but rather unlikely.

Like those close to HSV MOPO reported on Sunday evening, HSV could now focus on a coach who is currently training a direct league competitor. Paderborn coach Lukas Kwasniok should play a role in the considerations of HSV sports director Jonas Boldt, transfermarkt.de confirms the information in the sheet. Also the kicker writes that Kwasniok enjoys a high reputation in Hamburg’s executive suite.

The 42-year-old is contractually bound to SC Paderborn until 2025 and managed not to lose in any of his three guest appearances with Ostwestfalen in Hamburg. In December, Paderborn stole three points from Volkspark after a 2-1 comeback win and inflicted HSV’s first home defeat of the season.
After the 22nd matchday, Hamburg is in third place in promotion relegation and is four points behind direct promotion place two after the recent 2-2 draw in Rostock. The lead over fourth place (Hannover 96) is now just one point.
