Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg spends an awful lot on security — especially compared to other tech giants.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg (37) spends more money on his security than any other tech boss in the world. As the Meta boss told the SEC, his costs in 2021 alone amounted to more than 26.8 million dollars, the equivalent of almost 25 million euros.

That’s how much other tech bosses spend on their security

Other tech bosses give a “Bloomberg” reportaccording to only a fraction of this sum for security measures. Google CEO Sundar Pichai (49) only estimates 4.3 million dollars for his security, followed by Evan Spiegel (31) from Snapchat with 2.3 million dollars and Larry Ellison (77), founder of the software company Oracle, with 2 .2 million dollars. Amazon boss Jeff Bezos (58) only spends 1.6 million dollars on his security.

In comparison, even the security cost of Sheryl Sandberg, 52, co-CEO of Meta, is high: $9 million.

“Increasing Hostility”

Zuckerberg’s security measures include precautions due to the corona pandemic as well as private air transport, for which $1.6 million was paid last year alone.

However, the “increasing hostility” towards Facebook and Meta are responsible for the increase in costs. Meta notes in the filing that “negative sentiment about our company is directly associated with, and often carries over to, Mr. Zuckerberg.”
