2600 soldiers simulate attack on Franconia – Bavaria

Soldiers from several countries are currently practicing in Franconia how they could liberate enemy-occupied territory between the Main and Autobahn 3. The 10th Armored Division, stationed in Veitshöchheim near Würzburg, is training for the first time with the newly subordinated Dutch 13th Light Brigade until the end of November.

With this brigade, all brigades of the Dutch field army have been assigned to the divisions of the German Army since March. With the 10th Division, Germany has promised NATO a fully operational large unit by 2025. In order to be able to do this despite the equipment shortages, the 1st Panzer Division hands over a lot of material to the other large unit and receives new equipment from the special fund. But this process will take years.

According to Bundeswehr information on Tuesday, the computer-supported staff framework exercise called “Schneller Degen 23” is taking place, among other places, at the Wildflecken military training area in the Rhön – with command posts, without troop movements with combat vehicles. The management staff practice in a computer simulation. The soldiers want to oppose an attack on the fictional region “Franconia”. Around 2,600 people from 14 countries are involved.
