25 years of Heimatkanal: Home is the most beautiful place – media

Kitsch, love dramas, happy endings – things like that only run regularly on the home channel. Why feel-good television still works after 25 years.

When the homeland film “Das Schweigen im Walde”, based on the novel of the same name by Ludwig Ganghofer, was released in the cinemas in 1955, it hit the audience’s taste, as expected. Director Helmut Weiss used tried and tested ingredients, in other words an idealized mountain world with a love drama and happy ending. Critics later blasphemed that the film only fulfilled the cliché of the lacquered kitsch style of the homeland film of the post-war period. Today there is hardly a broadcaster that offers such films from the ideal world of the 1950s and 1960s.
