2000 US dollars for Munich attackers – media

ARD confirms that one of the Palestinian perpetrators of the Munich attack in 1972, who has his say in the documentary “Death and Games”, received 2,000 US dollars.

According to ARD, 2,000 US dollars were paid to one of the Olympic assassins who took part in the attack on the Israeli team at the Munich games. Mohammed Safady was in the four-part series that aired in September ARD documentary “Death and Games” been interviewed.

“Death and Games – Munich ’72” is a production by Looksfilm in co-production with the public broadcasters RBB, SWR and BR for ARD in cooperation with France Télévisions and VPRO. RBB and SWR were joint leaders.

The ARD had a press release on Friday Magazine report Focus reacted and described it as false: Focus writes that the responsible producer paid “an exclusive fee of 2000 US dollars” to Safady. Of the Focus referred to a spokeswoman for the Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) broadcaster, who received a request from the end of September Focus had answered. The ARD published this statement in the press release: “A few months after the shooting, the producer of Looksfilm had agreed on a temporary exclusivity for his rights of use with one of the hostage-takers, for which the production company paid 2000 US dollars. This was the ARD broadcasters involved until the request through the Focus but not known.”

The ARD describes it as wrong if the Focus write that Safady was “paid an interview fee”. Of the Focus however, uses the terms “exclusive fee” and “exclusive fee”.

ARD also emphasizes that the ARD broadcasters involved had to ensure that no interview fees were paid to the two surviving attackers from the 1972 Olympic Games. She pointed out “that the producer Gunnar Dedio had assured us several times – also in writing – that no fees were paid for the interviews with the Palestinian hostage-takers.”
