200 drones… instead of the July 14 fireworks display

Use drones instead of July 14 fireworks. Faced with drought and a high risk of fire, the city of Nîmes, in the Gard, decided to innovate. “For twenty minutes, from the Jaurès alleys, 200 drones will take off more than 100 meters from the ground of the Jardins de la Fontaine”, explains the city. It promises “a totally innovative show of 12 paintings representing the emblems of the City. »

The show is scheduled to start at 10:30 p.m. on the evening of the National Day. “This edition shows the capacity of the City of Nîmes to show resilience in relation to climate issues, notes Frédéric Pastor, Deputy Delegate for the Festivities and Bullfighting. It is also an enhancement of new technologies in the air show”.

In 2022, while the fires were raging, especially in the nearby Cévennes, the July 14 fireworks display had to be canceled in Nîmes and other municipalities in the Gard.
