17-year-old cyclist spends the night clinging to a cliff after mistakenly following his GPS

A whole night spent clinging to the clumps of grass on a cliff, perched on a rocky outcrop. Having left to join friends on a mountain bike, a 17-year-old young man experienced, without doubt, the worst fright of his life. The boy got lost while following his GPS and found himself stuck in the Chartreuse massif, in Isère. He was found Tuesday morning by police officers from the CRS Alpes de Grenoble.

“He clung to life, he believed in it until the end, says Brigadier Philippe Magnon, on France Bleu Isère. He was very lucky. If he had slipped, it would have been fatal. “For ten hours, the young man remained thus on this rocky outcrop moistened by the rain, overhanging 100 to 150 meters of vacuum.

Initially, the boy wanted to follow his GPS but the device took him on paths that were far too steep. So he ended up leaving his bike to continue his journey on foot but found himself by mistake on a closed via ferrata. Lost, stuck “in an inaccessible place”, the young man immediately called the emergency services. It was only in the early morning that the gendarmes were able to find him before hoisting him up.
