6,000 hectares burned in Gironde and Landes
Since Tuesday 1 p.m., 500 firefighters supported by Canadairs, Dash and water bomber helicopter have been fighting a virulent fire in Hostens and Saint-Magne, in South Gironde. This resumption of the gigantic Landiras fire in July, which destroyed nearly 14,000 hectares and is still not under control to this day, progressed unfavorably to reach the Landes department in the middle of the night.
According to the prefecture, it has already ravaged a total of 6,000 hectares this Wednesday morning, including more than 200 in the Landes, and led to the evacuation of nearly 6,000 people. 3,800 evacuations took place on Tuesday in Gironde: the Joué district, in Belin-Béliet, the town and the south of the town of Saint-Magne as well as Hostens and its localities, according to the prefecture. 16 houses were destroyed in Belin-Béliet overnight and the entire town was evacuated on Wednesday morning. According to the Landes prefecture, more than 200 people were also evacuated to Moustey.
At least two firefighters were injured: a lightly injured man from Meurthe-et-Moselle during an incident with a truck and a calf burn victim evacuated to the Mont-de-Marsan Hospital Center.

This fire, which is therefore a resumption of the one which destroyed nearly 14,000 hectares in South Gironde in July, started about twenty kilometers from Landiras. “Here, where there is a lot of peat, the fire of July is buried”, explained the prefect this Wednesday morning. And thanks to unfavorable weather conditions (heat wave, drought), it resumed very virulently on Tuesday.
