How to adopt the frame shelf at home?
The frame shelf (or photo shelf) is an element borrowed from art galleries. Intended to highlight pieces in an extra-flat format, it is characterized by specific dimensions: although its length may vary, its depth rarely exceeds 10 cm. Since the frame shelf should not steal the spotlight from the pieces displayed there, it is normally sober – or even downright minimalist.
The classic option consists of “stacking” the frame door shelves in order to cover a portion of the wall from floor to ceiling. This composition is a great alternative to the traditional wall of frames, since it is possible to rearrange or completely recreate your wall composition in no time.
The other advantage of frame shelves is that they are much more versatile than their name suggests. Able to accommodate plants or trinkets, they allow you to create original mix and match compositions.
To let the pieces on display shine, you can take inspiration from the original frame shelf, simply made of metal or transparent, intended to be forgotten. Less austere, the wooden frame shelf offers a nice balance between aesthetics and discretion.
The frame shelf also knows how to be stylish. It then becomes a decorative accessory in its own right. In this child’s bedroom, we opted for a bi-material model in teak and brass. In a Mid Century atmosphere, you may prefer the walnut model. The frame shelf is also available in a colored version, in rattan, or in an OSB panel version.
The frame shelf allows you to display different types of objects. It thus transforms into an exhibition space to showcase your most beautiful books or your favorite vinyl covers.
Entrance, corridor, landing or stairwell: passage spaces are not always easy to decorate, and we often end up neglecting them. Not great for creating a cozy atmosphere at home. The frame shelf is the preferred solution for decorating these delicate spaces without cluttering them. And if they lack a little light, take the opportunity to discreetly slip in a pretty mirror!
Very trendy in the living room or bedroom, the frame shelf perfectly decorates the wall space located above the sofa or headboard.
In recent years, the trend has been towards lightness in the kitchen, where cupboards and hanging storage are eliminated. To spruce up the decor, we opt for frame shelves. If we like classic models, we love the linear model that runs the length of the splashback. Not really a fan of DIY? Rest assured: many brands offer tailor-made models!
With its mini-size, the frame shelf can easily be used as storage for spice jars in the kitchen. We also adopt it in the make-up corner to store, for example, a collection of nail polishes.
Allied to small spaces, the frame shelf effectively replaces a classic shelf in a very small bathroom or in addition to a desk with storage to create a functional work space at home.
