A bright living room
This season again, light colors find their place in the living room.
If you still love bright interiors, you prefer cream to off-white shades, which are warmer than traditional pure white. They are associated with warm colors, evoking the earth: ocher, brown or terracotta. This bright organic palette is ideal for a trendy cocooning living room, where cozy materials are used without moderation. So bet on the sofa and the terry armchair, more trendy than ever, and on thick rugs.
One of the novelties of the season is the attention paid to the work of color. If this is true for the whole house, it is especially true in the living room. Thus, when we adopt pure white, it is no longer a choice by default, but a bias aimed at having its effect.
If we choose the total white look in the living room, it is above all to highlight pieces of furniture or decoration that assume their very colorful look, inspired by the iconic Memphis style of the 1980s.
The nude is essential
The nude trend is hardly new. This season, however, it unashamedly takes center stage.
Between terracotta and pinkish beige, we fall for this soft and earthy orange shade, to the point of daring it in total look.
If nude is making a lasting impression in our interiors – and more specifically in the living room – it is because the trend is decidedly towards softness. Exit, the very pronounced contrasts: we prefer a peaceful combination, such as that of pinkish beige and taupe.
Very pale gray or slightly grayish white? Basically, it doesn’t matter: this light and muted shade is ideal for revealing all the richness of a nude color. But to tell the truth, it is so hot that we adopt it just as readily in total look in the living room!
Blue and green review their copy
Blue and green remain safe values for a living room that is pleasant to live in. But this season, those two classics take a step back. We like them lighter, and lightly smoked.
Dulux Valentine has already announced its Bleu Horizon as the color of the year. Beware of this very wise blue: if it is soft and soothing, it could just as well put us in our eyes! Because it offers an astonishing variety in terms of color associations. If you fear the faux pas, bet on the association with a brown character, which will balance it perfectly.
This season more than ever, sage green is topical. It is readily associated with old rose, which is also making a noticeable comeback, after running out of steam.
Bold colors in 2022
The trend has been towards minimalism for several seasons now, including in terms of colors. But beware: this season, in the living room, color is making a small revolution!
Lemon yellow, neon orange or apple green: the living room takes on saturated colors, which flirt without complex with fluorescent. To take advantage of these very saturated shades while maintaining a pleasant atmosphere, however, we avoid the total look!
To soothe lemony nuances, for example, we associate them with a decoration that gives pride of place to blue, a peaceful color par excellence. We avoid pure white, which would produce a very violent contrast, to prefer shades ranging from ecru to beige.
These colors that have not said their last word!
Stars of last season, some colors are not decided to be supplanted. For a trendy show in 2022, it will therefore be necessary to reckon with them again and again!
Between brown and ocher, Terre d’Argile was the color of the year 2021 according to Dulux Valentine. And if Bleu Horizon has just succeeded it, this warm and understated shade remains a sure bet in the living room. This season, however, we favor an association with copper or amber hues, such as honey.
The other color of the year 2021 that only asks to play extra time in the living room is yellow. However, it is appreciated in small touches, preferably in combination with browns.
One color, one palette
For a trendy and cozy living room at the same time, this season we are committed to working with color with care. If you hesitate when creating your palette, bet on one of the trends of the season: the shades. In other words: go for a trendy color, and decline it in 2 to 3 intensities.
Blue is a very safe choice for the living room because it is both cool and calming. We fall for Restore, color of the year 2022 by Graham & Brown. Between blue and gray, it can be used as a base to build shades of gray – so be sure to choose a shade with cool undertones. It also allows to decline shades of blue, in association with a deep blue.
Combination of colors or shades, it doesn’t matter which palette makes you fall for it: this season, what matters is its application! An arch, a niche: we do not hesitate to vary the intensities to accentuate the shadows and light areas, and to highlight the volumes and particularities of the living room.
