Focus on color
The simplest and most effective way to radically change the style of a room is simply to repaint it.
Soothing, cool colors are a very safe choice in the bedroom. To stick to trends, turn to the choice of major publishers such as Dulux Valentine or Graham & Brown, who have elected sky blue color of the year.
Ideal for breathing new life into the decor of the bedroom, light blue has the advantage of offering many possibilities in terms of color combinations. Canon with terracotta, brown, yellow, lilac or khaki green, it combines with all the trendiest shades of the year. Using 2 to 3 colors is also an opportunity to try your hand at an application that is a little off the beaten track, for example by creating a base effect or by trying your hand at Color Block.
The trendy option is to make a painted pattern on the wall. And the trend of the year is the arch, a motif that works just as nicely in a contemporary bedroom as in a bohemian, Scandinavian or New Antic bedroom.
If you’re not really a fan of the paint roller and the masking tape, forget the paint and bet instead on the panoramic wallpaper to revamp the bedroom. This solution is particularly suitable for a small bedroom, to which a trompe-l’oeil wallpaper gives depth.
Renew textiles
It is not mandatory to incur large expense to makeover the bedroom. If you have the budget to do some shopping, bet on textiles, the most effective accessories to give a whole new personality to the decor.
The carpet is a key element to makeover the room, especially if you have the possibility of installing a large model. From the kilim rug to the nomad-inspired rug, from wool to jute, from the classic round or square rug to the asymmetrical model: you will easily find the model that suits your decorative desires. For a more elegant aesthetic, choose a model large enough to generously extend beyond the bed.
If you tend to get bored very quickly, bet on a sober painting and carpet, and have fun with the bed linen to revamp the room according to your inspiration of the moment.
Makeover… or declutter?
If you feel the need to revamp the room, there is a good chance that some furniture no longer has its place in your new decor.
The first option is of course to revamp the bedroom furniture. You can embark on a DIY operation, and give a second life to your wooden furniture with paint or wallpaper.
Sometimes all it takes is one detail for a bedside table or chest of drawers to completely change its style. The secret ? Simply change the handles!
The alternative to the makeover is simply to remove furniture. The bias is radical, as it usually involves sorting out and getting rid of certain things – trinkets, clothes, books, etc. However, the minimalist bedroom is particularly pleasant to live in (and it is terribly trendy!). So the sacrifice could well pay off!
Whether you decide to revamp your furniture or remove it, this is the opportunity or never to test a new organization, for example by choosing a new location for the bed. The trend of the moment is to install the bed in front of the window. You can also rearrange the room by following the principles of Feng Shui, which are known to promote better quality sleep.
Think about recycling and upcycling
In order to wake up the decor of the room without breaking the bank, do not hesitate to hunt and recycle. And if you have a taste for DIY, you can even try your hand at upcycling – the practice of recovering objects or furniture by assigning it a new role.
Old windows or weathered shutters make it possible to compose a headboard in a shabby chic spirit. These elements are generally quite high, if you install them vertically, it is important to fix them well. If you rather fall for ethnic chic decoration, think of the exotic wood screen, easy to divert at the head of the bed.
The cleat wall has become very trendy. If you have a few left over after adopting it in the living room or in the entrance hall, they can be very useful for bringing a touch of originality to the bedroom. Very effective for structuring the space and isolating an office area, they also allow you to achieve a very graphic canopy effect.
In the bedroom as in any other room in the house, there is no question of skipping the wall decoration! The wall of frames is a safe bet, because it can be modified endlessly. Graphic prints, artistic photos… you can exhibit anything that inspires you at the moment!
Depending on the style of decoration that appeals to you, try your hand at a made-to-measure wall decoration: a few pieces of plant fiber for a bohemian or ethnic chic atmosphere, or even a piece of driftwood for an organic touch.
