Ice-cold victory: FC Augsburg is running hot against Frankfurt

In sub-zero temperatures, FC Augsburg is more winter-proof than the guests from Frankfurt. Under new coach Thorup, FCA remains unbeaten after a deserved 2-1 win.
There is a powerful one in the icy stadium FC Augsburg got hot in their home win against Eintracht Frankfurt.
After goals from Fredrik Jensen (34th minute) and Iago (58th) at the end of the 13th matchday, the dominant hosts won 2-1 (1-0) against the European Cup participants from Hesse and thus remained under in the sixth game the new coach Jess Thorup undefeated.
National goalkeeper Kevin Trapp even prevented Frankfurt from falling behind 0-3 with a parried penalty from FCA captain Ermedin Demirovic (75′). Three minutes later, FCA goalkeeper Finn Dahmen directed a cross from ex-Augsburg player Philipp Max into his own goal (78′). Afterwards there was an intense, trembling final phase for the home team.
After three wins and three draws under the Dane Thorup, FC Augsburg moved into the first half of the table. Frankfurt, on the other hand, are only one point better and have been waiting for a win for four competitive games. Eintracht in the person of Hugo Larsson helped with the first goal in front of 26,107 spectators. The slipping midfielder lost the ball in front of the penalty area. Demirovic quickly served Jensen, who gave national goalkeeper Kevin Trapp no chance to defend his first goal of the season.
A few minutes earlier the guests had been lucky. According to video evidence, an Augsburg goal by defender Felix Uduokhai was disallowed due to an offside position by defender Jeffrey Gouweleeuw in the making (28th).
Jensen and Demirovic were again involved in the second goal after the break. The free-standing Brazilian Iago then flicked the ball into the far corner with his weaker right foot, placed and unstoppable for Trapp.
Many hard-working helpers ensured that the game could take place after heavy snowfall in Bavaria. There was intense action on the lawn under wafts of fog. The Augsburg fans were brilliantly entertained by their team for the first Advent despite the difficult conditions. The team appears solid under Thorup.
At Eintracht, the strong running Ellyes Skhiri, who injured his thigh in the 1-2 defeat in the Conference League, was missing as a strategist and law enforcement officer in midfield. Robin Koch was back in defense, but it wasn’t stable even with him. For a long time, Frankfurt’s forward side remained patchy. FCA goalkeeper Dahmen was also quick to react when Dina Ebimbe had an early chance (8th).
Before kick-off, the FCA subsequently said farewell to Alfred Finnbogason. The Icelandic international wore the Augsburg jersey from 2016 to 2022 and is still the club’s record scorer in the Bundesliga with 37 goals in 115 games. The 34-year-old now plays for KAS Eupen in Belgium. As a guest in the stands, Finnbogason saw in sub-zero temperatures that the current FCA offensive around captain Demirovic can also generate a lot of force.
