13 years innocent in prison: 370,000 euros for justice victim Manfred Genditzki – Bavaria

Manfred Genditzki was innocently imprisoned for 13 years – now the public prosecutor’s office has announced the amount to which he is entitled as compensation. But the amount could end up being even larger.

After being unjustly imprisoned for murder for 13 years, Manfred Genditzki received compensation of 368,700 euros. This amount corresponds to the compensation for 4916 days in prison, said a spokesman for the Munich public prosecutor on Tuesday. Genditzki is entitled to 75 euros per day. Previously had the Picture-Newspaper reported on the payment.

Not included in the sum are possible financial losses that Genditzki incurred because of his imprisonment, for example through loss of earnings, said the spokesman for the authorities. With a view to further claims for damages, Genditzki’s lawyer said Picture-Zeitung: “We will continue and also demand compensation for all damages.”

After years of fighting to have his innocence recognized, Genditzki was acquitted of murder by the Munich I Regional Court in early July. The public prosecutor’s office had asked for acquittal in the newly rolled out trial for the alleged murder of an old woman in 2008. Reports had substantiated that the old woman died in an accident – and was not the victim of a crime.
