The scarers

Scarers are found in the trade. These are products that will be used to scare the pigeons by means ofimitations of their predators. They can be balloons, representations of hawks or owls, etc. There is a wide choice. However, pigeons are intelligent, so it is necessary to change them regularly if you do not want them to get used to it and end up completely ignoring your scarers.

The anti-pigeon net

Anti-pigeon nets are not very aesthetic, but they allowprevent birds from approaching. We simply stretch them over the place we want to protect. They are very efficient and can be installed anywhere.

Metal picks and stakes

We can also dissuade the pigeons from coming to rest on the balcony barriers, for example, using metal picks. Thus, they no longer have the necessary space to land. The trade offers some which are quite easy to install thanks to a support that is simply glued to the surface to be protected.

Pigeons can also trample on your flower beds causing serious damage. To protect them, you can therefore set up stakes or sticks. It is enough to drive them solidly into the earth to prevent the pigeons from pulling them out. It is mainly in spring that the pigeons are disturbing, in summer, when the nesting period has passed, it is possible to remove the guardians.

Plexiglass

You can also protect the spaces where you do not want to see the pigeons come to settle, by installing plexiglass. It is a very slippery material on which the pigeons will have no grip to land. You can install it to close a balcony, for example. On balcony edges, you can also install PVC coverings to prevent them from landing on them.

Stretch a thread

It is also possible to prevent the pigeons from balancing on the guardrails, among other things, by fixing a metal wire above. This must be installed so that it is stretched. This is a fairly easy solution to implement.

Tile filler plates

For the roof, you can use tile filler plates. They will prevent the pigeons from taking advantage of the spaces to make their nests. If they are not very expensive, they take a bit of time to install.

Repellent sprays

We find in commerce repellent sprays to fight against pigeons. When choosing it, make sure that it does not contain no chemicals. Then just use it in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. You can also use gel to apply or granules to disseminate. The principle stays the same, repel pigeons with odors that disturb them. Another solution is to turn to essential oils, for example.

To make your spray yourself:

  1. Start by filling a spray bottle halfway with water.
  2. Add the same amount of white vinegar.
  3. You can also put 10 drops of eucalyptus essential oil.
  4. Shake well so that all the ingredients are combined.
  5. Finally, spray generously on the different surfaces where the pigeons come to settle.

It is a quick and economical solution that can be used on your terrace, your balcony, etc. To ensure the effectiveness of this treatment, it is necessary to renew it regularly.

Spices

You can sprinkle with hot spices such as pepper, of curry, of the cinnamon. To do this, spread it all over the place, the birds will quickly understand that there is nothing interesting to eat in this place.

Moreover, it is important not to leave any food within reach, especially since it is forbidden to feed pigeons. In fact, the birds settle near the places where they find food. Deprived of food, they will look elsewhere!

Mothballs

On your balcony, install small canvas bags that you will have previously filled with mothballs. It is a smell that helps deter pigeons from approaching.

Reflective surfaces

To prevent pigeons from landing on your balconies, for example, you can install reflective strips on them. You can thus opt for metal coverings. You can also hang CDs where you don’t want birds to settle. With the sun, they will cast reflections and scare away the birds.

Aluminum

Aluminum, in addition to being a reflective material, also diffuses a noise which annoys the pigeons. So you can attach them to window sills or where you’ve found them to like to roost. You can also put it in the gutters to prevent pigeons from coming to settle their nests.

The windmill

Another interesting solution is windmills. You can make them yourself with reflective paper to increase their effectiveness. They will turn to the rhythm of the wind thus driving the pigeons away. It is a solution which, in addition, allows you to decorate your garden.

Ultrasound

Ultrasonic boxes can be found on the market which are designed to be installed outside your home. These are intended to repel pigeons away from your personal space. However, this trick is controversial, because its effectiveness is not fully proven.
