Leverkusen is first again after their win in Bremen. BVB barely prevents the next setback. Union ends a series of defeats – Stuttgart wins in Frankfurt.

Bayer Leverkusen has regained the lead in the Bundesliga. The factory club won 3-0 (2-0) at Werder Bremen on matchday 12 and provided a fitting present for coach Xabi Alonso on his 42nd birthday on Saturday.

Leverkusen, who are still unbeaten this season, are two points ahead of record champions Bayern Munich, who won 1-0 at 1. FC Köln on Friday.

Borussia Dortmund showed morale in the 4:2 (3:2) win against Borussia Mönchengladbach when coach Edin Terzic’s team successfully turned around a 0:2 deficit within a quarter of an hour. 1. FC Union Berlin had a small sense of success after parting ways with coach Urs Fischer. Under the interim coaching duo Marco Grote and Marie-Louise Eta, the Champions League starter won 1-1 (0-1) against FC Augsburg after nine league defeats in a row. Title contenders RB Leipzig suffered a 1:2 (0:1) draw at VfL Wolfsburg. SC Freiburg and newly promoted SV Darmstadt drew 1:1 (1:1).

Undav makes Stuttgart cheer

In the evening game, third-placed VfB Stuttgart underlined their strong form with a 2-1 (2-1) win at Eintracht Frankfurt. Deniz Undav scored the goals for the Swabians with a brace (1st, 45th + 1). Frankfurt only managed to equalize temporarily thanks to an own goal from Waldemar Anton (26th).

An own goal from Bremen’s Oliver Deman (9th minute) put Leverkusen on the road to victory early on. Jeremie Frimpong (42nd) and Alejandro Grimaldo (76th) added goals.

After conceding goals from Rocco Reitz (13th) and Kouadio Koné (28th), Dortmund initially trailed by 2-0. But Marcel Sabitzer (30′) and Niclas Füllkrug (32′) equalized with a double strike, and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens scored BVB’s first lead shortly before the half-time whistle. Donyell Malen (90th + 7) brought the final point.

Union with a point against Augsburg

A foul by Union national player Robin Gosens on the edge of the penalty area against Arne Engels gave Augsburg a penalty, which Ermedin Demirovic (40th) safely converted to give Augsburg the lead. On the other side, Robin Knoche (58th) initially missed a penalty for a possible equalizer, which Kevin Volland (88th) took care of shortly before the end.

Wolfsburg benefited from a goalkeeping error by RB goalkeeper Janis Blaswich in the 1-0 lead through goal scorer Jonas Wind (9th). After Yussuf Poulsen’s equalizer (52′), Rogerio (66′) scored to give VfL the lead again.

In Freiburg, the Darmstadt team scored their first goal with a deflected shot from Mathias Honsak (18th). Lucas Höler (35th) equalized for Freiburg.
