Large format bathroom tiles: what exactly are we talking about?

When we talk about large format bathroom tiles, we spontaneously think of the very large models whose standard length is 120 cm.

The very large format tiling allows a so-called seamless installation, which gives a nice impression of uniformity. To give character to the bathroom, we dare to use precious finishes. Among the very current materials: jade to sublimate the contemporary bathroom or quartz to give a twist to the pink bathroom. If the option seems too bold, bet on a soothing color: white mother-of-pearl or, as here, blue marble.

However, so-called large-format bathroom tiles are not limited to XXL tiles. In the bathroom, we have long favored a mosaic made up of small tiles of 1 x 1 cm. While this coating is making a comeback in our interiors, we now gladly adopt it in a 5 x 5 cm format in the bathroom. This large format allows for more fantasy in the pattern, and we especially love the cement tile inspiration.

Subway tiles are among the other classics that have gained momentum in recent seasons. The real Parisian metro tiles have a standard size of 7.5 x 15 cm. This basic, which works just as well in the Scandinavian bathroom as in the industrial bathroom or the bohemian bathroom, now inspires XL versions. We love the 10 x 40 cm model which brings a discreet touch of fantasy to the decor.

How to adopt large format tiles in the bathroom?

Slabs and large tiles are no longer exclusively reserved for bathroom flooring: now they also cover the walls, the shower and the bathtub, and even the worktop. Give free rein to your creativity!

In total look, the large format tiles make it possible to create a peaceful setting in the bathroom. For an atmosphere conducive to relaxation without being too wise, bet on imitation wood or stone tiles, enlivened with veins or slight color variations. This bias is canon in the minimalist bathroom, equipped with a simple basin and an XXL shower, or in the organic bathroom.

Small or large bathroom: structuring the space helps to make the space cozier. The classic option is to play with the wall tiles of the shower or the splashback of the basin. In this contemporary bathroom, we have combined a large imitation walnut tiling and natural stone effect tiling slabs. Two materials, two large formats, for a top-trend look.

Large format tiling can be combined with standard sized tiles. In this attic bathroom, walls and framework disappear behind the false ceiling and the insulation. To give character to the place, we adopted a large wood effect tiling to create an atmosphere full of charm, and opted for a cement tile in traditional format to energize the whole.

What if you fell for the sobriety and elegance of the gray bathroom? To spruce up the decor, bet on a large-format effect tile. Imitation metal slabs sublimate industrial bathroom furniture. For an even more daring decor, opt for large imitation leather tiles.

The waxed concrete bathroom is one of the timeless, and large slabs are a popular way to adopt this very mineral aesthetic. Combining classic imitation concrete slabs and slabs enhanced with a pattern, this workshop-style bathroom offers a discreet touch of originality.

A refined and natural bathroom at the same time: this may seem incompatible. However, with this large format dark wood imitation tile, this bathroom perfectly reconciles a Zen spirit and a sophisticated atmosphere. The good idea to steal is the association of this large format with a smaller format and placed vertically – a detail that discreetly energizes the decor.

Large format tiles can be an interesting alternative to wallpaper in the bathroom. This is an opportunity to try, for example, geometric decoration. However, care is taken not to visually overload the room, and large plain tiles are preferred for the floor.

Among the trends that have taken hold in recent seasons: large-format tiling with a floral or exotic motif, which replaces panoramic wallpaper in the bathroom. The trick to enhance it is to associate it with a sober mineral tile – concrete or travertine, for example, or very natural like wood.

Soothing, monochromatic decor is ideal for creating an intimate atmosphere in the bathroom, especially if you opt for black or a rich color. If the monochromatic bathroom is too smooth for your taste, bet on the big trend of the moment: 3D tiles. In large format, you can find refined decorations that catch the light nicely.
