11-year-old dies while kayaking in Upper Bavaria – Bavaria

An eleven-year-old died in an accident while kayaking on the Ammer in Upper Bavaria on Saturday. The boy belonged to a group of 14 from the Rosenheim district who were traveling on the river, the police said in the evening.

Shortly after 3 p.m. his kayak capsized in front of the Echelsbacher Bridge in Rottenbuch (Weilheim-Schongau district). The boy then went missing. Water rescue, mountain rescue service and police took part in the search. The child was found dead around 5:45 p.m. “The search and rescue measures were extremely difficult due to the strong current and accordingly took a long time,” it said.

The other eight young people and children as well as five adults were looked after by crisis teams. The investigations into the course of the accident are under the direction of the Munich II public prosecutor’s office.
