100 seconds of life – Corona at the neighboring table

With the autumn cold and wetness, infectious diseases are spreading again. Our columnist Thomas Hollman observes the revival of Corona and that the virus has obviously lost its ideological terror.

I was recently at an Italian restaurant and overheard the people sitting next to me. I didn’t want to do that, but at my Italian restaurant you sit so close together that you could salt your neighbor’s spaghetti yourself. You don’t even have to hand the spreader over there. In addition, the men talked very animatedly, not to say loudly. Which may have been due to their red wine consumption.

The four probably had to do with each other professionally. I heard the words “office”, “colleague” and “flat pipe”. I wanted to concentrate on eating. But then someone said: “Corona”. Oh wow! Should the round escalate? Corona has already divided many colleagues. And not only Lauterbach says that the virus is back, but also Edeka. Corona masks were on sale recently.

One of the men asked whether they wanted to be vaccinated again. Probably not, said the person next to him. He already had Corona and it was just like a cold. Maybe it was just a cold because he was vaccinated, the third person at the table tried to figure out. While the fourth did not want to get Long Covid under any circumstances, whether vaccinated or unvaccinated. And then the topic was over and people started talking about cars.

And it surprised me that Corona now seems so non-ideological. One can discuss it without demanding that the other party declare a commitment to the state and science. Likewise, you don’t have to fall into compulsive opposition to the authorities. In fact, Corona can be weighed up and endured. That’s great. Maybe I should eat at my Italian restaurant more often.
