The city is to get 100 additional public drinking fountains where passers-by can quench their thirst with free water. The necessary city council decision is to be made on Tuesday in the building committee. According to the building department, such free systems have already been implemented near 32 Munich ornamental fountains. The initiative goes back to a motion by the Green/Pink List and SPD/Volt factions, as well as a later motion by the CSU and Free Voters.
However, the building department also refers to federal and EU guidelines that are intended to give citizens access to free, high-quality drinking water in public spaces. In cooperation with the district committees, 79 potential locations have already been identified. The drinking fountains on the outside walls of public toilet facilities near playgrounds should be particularly quick. The necessary pipelines are already there.
