Velvet curtains in the industrial interior: what if we dared?
Velvet is considered a luxurious material: if it is expected in a chic country interior or in a stylish interior, it is hard to imagine it in an industrial decoration. And yet, it’s a rather smart choice to create a warm and cozy atmosphere in a decor dominated by raw materials such as concrete and metal.
The trick is to favor cotton velvet. Indeed, velvet is not a material: it is a mode of weaving. The shimmering velvet is made of silk threads. The cotton velvet curtain has a fall comparable to the silk model, but it has a more matte finish, perfectly suited to industrial decoration.
The black cotton velvet curtain is a very safe choice: with it, you are sure to avoid bad taste. To introduce a touch of color while sticking to the industrial spirit of your decor, you can opt for slightly muted colours. Green is a very good choice in a mineral decor: brick wallpaper or waxed concrete. Very contemporary, the cognac color goes perfectly with an aged leather sofa.
The linen curtain: the trendy option to pimp the industrial interior
Linen has the advantage of covering the window and protecting it from prying eyes while allowing light to pass through. This material, which is soft to the eye and to the touch, is ideal for bringing a note of delicacy to industrial interiors, while preserving its raw character.
The safe bet is the linen curtain chosen in a natural colour. You may prefer a tinted model. To stick to the industrial spirit of your decoration, favor in this case earthy shades: sand, ocher, even brick color.
For maximum transparency and lightness, think of linen voile, whose material effect is comparable to the traditional linen curtain, but which is much less opaque.
The small detail that changes everything ? It is the ties, which give a truly industrial character to a linen curtain. The classic option are eyelets and metal loops, which are preferably chosen in black or aged metal effect. For a more original touch in the factory living room or in the industrial bedroom, you may prefer a linen curtain with leather loops.
Suede curtains: the blackout and insulating model
In the bedroom or in a living room with a bay window, it is often interesting to choose blackout curtains and/or curtains that act as thermal insulation, in order to limit energy loss as much as possible. This type of curtains now comes in a wide variety of styles and colors. However, they are thicker – and therefore more present – than simple curtains. In the industrial interior, we therefore prefer to put on sober colors: black, gray, brown or even beige. To bring a little color, avoid vibrant shades and prefer earthy or slightly muted colors.
The hottest is the suede effect blackout curtain in suede or polyester. It creates a cozy spirit, while sticking perfectly to the industrial atmosphere.
Decorative curtains to sublimate the industrial interior
Playing with materials and favoring sober colors: this is therefore the very safe recipe for choosing curtains suitable for industrial interiors. However, you can allow yourself a touch of fantasy.
To enhance the decor without taking any risks, bet on the bi-material curtain in linen and velvet. This type of curtain is distinguished by its pretty drape, and it brings a touch of delicacy to industrial decoration, without overdoing it.
The alternative is to mix the materials, but also the colors. Choose a linen model simply enhanced with a velvet band. Again, you can favor neutral colors, or you try to color, taking into account all of your decor. Blue or green, for example, will bring a little freshness to a loft decor dominated by very mineral materials such as concrete.
To bring a little character to your interior, dare imitation leather. Be sure to choose the same color as the leather of the armchair or sofa.
What curtain in the bathroom or industrial kitchen?
Bathrooms and kitchens frequently have small windows, and their location is sometimes tricky. It remains important to equip them with curtains in order to preserve your privacy, without ruining the efforts you have invested in creating an industrial decor!
The Japanese panel or the boat blind are both very functional solutions. For a resolutely industrial look, here again we bet on linen.
The linen brise-bise is a nice alternative, especially in the kitchen, if you have opted for a vintage factory decoration. A retro embroidered pattern will give a little brasserie spirit to the decor. In the kitchen, you can also introduce a touch of red, one of the emblematic colors of industrial decoration. In the bathroom, we prefer a more sober model, or enhanced with a touch of blue, black or brown.
