Turbine Potsdam and interim coach Sven Weigang are going their separate ways just a few days before the start of the women’s Bundesliga after the winter break. “I’m fine with that, I wanted to help, but it didn’t fit,” said Weigand in the Markische Allgemeine Zeitung from Friday. The club, which is in acute danger of relegation, confirmed the personnel on Friday afternoon. Weigang asked for his contract to be canceled immediately. “We will now discuss the situation immediately and inform you about further steps as soon as possible,” the statement said.
In November, Weigang, who had lost all four of his games in charge, took over for the dismissed Sebastian Middeke. He only followed former Bundesliga professional Sofian Chahed as coach in the summer. Weigand told the newspaper that the decision was made in a conversation on Wednesday afternoon to end the collaboration, which involved a great deal of effort for him. The 58-year-old works as a teacher.
