That was fast! Barely in Cologne, as soon as it got dark on Monday, newcomer Davie Selke (27) was on the training ground at Geißbockheim for the first time after signing his FC contract (until 2024) and completed a first individual session.
A full throttle start into the future. Selke labored in the rain with fitness coach Max Weuthen, completed runs and sprints, then played a few balls and obviously immediately showed the ambition that Cologne’s coach had raved about shortly before.
Steffen Baumgart (50): “I’ve had him on my list for a long time because I like his style and would rather have him in my team than with the opponent. Davie has an absolute mentality. It is measured by and willingness to run. And I’m sure he’ll do everything for FC.”
Selke chose the back number 27, of all things, which his famous storm predecessor Anthony Modeste (34/BVB) last wore at FC…
Sports boss Christian Keller (43) also believes in Selke: “Davie fits very well with our game idea and the striker profile we are looking for. With his physical presence, powerful header and good finish, he will help our team if we use him appropriately. We are also convinced that he can give our team important impetus both on and off the pitch with his mature personality.”

Selke himself is looking forward to the restart in Cologne and says: “Of course, what has developed at FC in the past year and a half could also be observed from afar. This positive impression was confirmed in the good discussions with those responsible,” explains the ex-Berliner.
Selke continued: “I think that my way of playing fits in well with Steffen Baumgart’s game idea. I want to show that here, work hard and, as a striker, I would like to contribute to our success with goals.”
Selke is supposed to train with his new colleagues for the first time on Tuesday. On Saturday in the friendly against HSV, he should be wearing the Modeste number 27 for the first time…
