0: 5 in the DFB Cup game: Gladbach humiliates FC Bayern Munich

Status: 10/27/2021 10:36 p.m.

Borussia Mönchengladbach gave Bayern Munich a heavy rub in the DFB Cup.

Adi Hütter’s team won 5-0 (3-0) on Wednesday (October 27th, 2021) and thus advance to the next round. After the end against Holstein Kiel in January this year, the Munich team have to give up the sails again early in the cup. Manu Koné scored after only two minutes for Borussia, Ramy Bensebaini added a double (15th, 21st penalty), Breel Embolo continued cheerfully (51st, 57th).

Gladbach fireworks at the start

Manuel Neuer had only just really made it into his goal when the national goalkeeper had to get the ball out of the net. Koné had just played a one-two with Breel Embolo after a mistake by Alphonso Davies in the penalty area and hit with a low shot from ten meters (2nd). It was beginning to look like it was going to be an extremely tough day for the 35-year-old.

Because the Gladbachers followed suit and created opportunity after opportunity. Embolo forced Neuer to make a brilliant save (11th), but after a strong combination against a relatively disoriented Bayern defense, Bensebaini rushing to the left brought the stadium to a boil after a quarter of an hour and scored 2-0. And the Borussia frenzy continued. Lucas Hernandez was clumsy in the penalty area against Breel Embolo. The following penalty whistle was a tough decision by Tobias Stieler, but Bensebaini didn’t care. The left-back casually tied the brace (21st).

Used tag for Upamecano and Co.

It took until the 34th minute before Bayern even managed to get a passable finish on Yann Sommer’s goal, but Serge Gnabry’s low shot was no problem for the Swiss. Although the Munich team had at least caught up a little in the meantime, the 3-0 break at break was also deserved at the height.

Bayern coach Dino Toppmöller, who again represented Julian Nagelsmann, who was sick with the corona virus, did not change during the break. In retrospect he might have done it differently and at least replaced Dayot Upamecano, who was already weak in the first round. Because the French didn’t look good at 4-0 through Embolo either and was boiled off by the Swiss in a duel with no great effort, when he prevailed after a long high ball with clever physical use and completed it free in front of Neuer.

Embolo also marks the end

Upamecano was redeemed by Toppmöller immediately afterwards, but it didn’t get any better. Luca Netz put the ball through to Embolo, who was lurking on the sideline, and Neuer had a Gladbach player free for the fifth time that day and again he was powerless (58th). Now at the latest, even the most pessimistic Borussia player was euphoric by what was happening on the lawn. The game tumbled towards the end with a little more opportunities for Munich. The fans in Borussia-Park didn’t care about that for a long time, they had been singing since kick-off.

Bayern are likely to compete at Union Berlin on Saturday (October 30th, 2021) with a lot of anger in their stomach, the Gladbachers will face VfL Bochum in their home game the next day, who have also made it to the next round.
