Zugspitze: young couple rescued from snow storm – Bavaria

A young couple was rescued from a flurry of snow on the Zugspitze, hypothermic and completely exhausted. The two 20-year-olds had probably underestimated the weather conditions on the mountain – the young man only wore sneakers on the tour last week, as operations manager Regina Poberschnigg reported on Monday.

The young woman was already slightly apathetic when the rescue team of 15 people arrived at the couple. “It poured from buckets in the valley,” says Poberschnigg. To hike to the Zugspitze in such weather is unreasonable. Because instead of rain there is snow and freezing temperatures. As previously reported by several media outlets, the mountain rescue services managed to bring the couple safely back down to Ehrwald in Tyrol last Monday.
