Climbers have discovered a dead man beneath the summit of the Zugspitze. The 34-year-old probably fell a day earlier.

A 34-year-old man is at the Zugspitze fell and died. Three mountain climbers found him lifeless in the snow on Wednesday afternoon not far from the entrance to the summit climbing route, the police announced in the evening. An emergency doctor could only confirm the death of the 34-year-old. The fatal fall probably occurred on Tuesday, the police said.

The 34-year-old mountaineer was probably climbing without a companion and fell from a great height, according to the police. He then slid about 100 meters on the snow towards the valley. The injuries he sustained are believed to have led to his immediate death. The exact circumstances of the accident are still to be determined.

Tours on Zugspitze currently risky

The three mountain climbers who found the man were brought to the valley by rescue helicopter. Police and mountain rescue pointed out that mountain tours are currently risky, as there is still a lot of snow at higher altitudes and relatively wintry conditions.
