Two women who pursue, desire and repel each other in a love-hate relationship: The unusual trill series “Killing Eve” has won many awards. The final season is now coming to prime time on free TV.

As the writer and star of the comedy series Fleabag, about the sexual escapades of a neurotic Londoner, Phoebe Waller-Bridge won the hearts of millions of viewers. As a producer, she created a dark counterpart with “Killing Eve”. On Friday (8:15 p.m.) the fourth and final season begins linearly on ZDFneo.

The two heroines of the successful format could hardly be more different. The beautiful assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer) leaves a trail of blood across Europe. She has childlike fun in her work, loves disguise and privately leads a life like a luxury influencer. But inside she is lonely and empty. Eve (Sandra Oh), on the other hand, is an MI5 agent who is married to a teacher and expects more from her job. When the two cross paths, a murderous game begins.

Breakthrough for Jodie Comer

For Jodie Comer, the role of the crazy murderess was her breakthrough five years ago. She won an Emmy and was named one of the “30 Most Influential People Under 30 in Europe” by Forbes Magazine. Comer is in top form in “Killing Eve”, as is Sandra Oh (“Grey’s Anatomy”), Fiona Shaw (the aunt Petunia Dursley from the “Harry Potter” films) as the cold-hearted British secret service agent and Kim Bodnia (“The Bridge”) as a killer supervisor.

All four seasons are currently available in the ZDF media library. But if you opt for the multi-award-winning series, which is based on the Villanelle novels by author Luke Jennings, you should put up with not only black humor but also blatant scenes of violence. The methods with which Villanelle chases her victims – mafia bosses, politicians, entrepreneurs, police officers – into the afterlife are extremely diverse.

So now the final season is on. And after a never-ending game of cat and mouse with Eve and dozens of dead bodies, Villanelle wants to become a good person and a Christian. She has made friends in an English vicarage and wants nothing more than to welcome her beloved adversary Eve at her christening.

But things are not going well. Eve gives her the cold shoulder, the parish would like to get rid of her. When Villanelle accidentally kills Lucifer, the vicar’s black cat, she can’t even keep the appearance of Jesus personally on the path of good. Meanwhile, Eve is also getting closer and closer to the dark side.
