“I had been working in the tourism industry for twelve years. With the Covid-19, I found myself on partial unemployment and the rest of the time, I tried to find solutions to repatriate my clients who were abroad. It was very complicated and I had trouble seeing the end of the tunnel. Hence my decision to take stock of skills in order to retrain, ”explains Sophie. Like her, more and more French people have carried out a skills assessment since the start of the health crisis, or are preparing to do so. “In 2020, 50,000 assessments were financed via the personal training account (CPF), against 33,000 in 2019. And since the start of 2021, 30,000 have already been. Which makes it the third most requested training course ”, indicates the Ministry of Labor to 20 minutes.

A craze explained by Sandrine Beaulieu, head of Acerola, a skills assessment center: “This period gave employees more time to think about their lives, their working conditions and their aspirations. Especially those who are in the second half of their career. This has led some to want to change direction, and the assessment is the first step for that ”. “Partial activity and teleworking have enabled working people to ask themselves the question of the meaning of their profession,” adds the entourage of Elisabeth Borne, the Minister of Labor. A click that had Alphonsine: “I have been babysitting at home for ten years. Then came the period of confinement. I questioned myself several times. I took stock of skills to get answers to these questions and see if, possibly, another profession emerged, ”she replied to our call for witnesses.

“The need to take stock to move towards a sector in better shape”

This questioning, some have been forced to: “Employees whose sector of activity has been strongly affected by the crisis, such as air transport, hotels and restaurants, events or commerce, have felt the need to take stock to move towards a sector in better shape. Without forgetting those who have suffered an economic layoff, ”notes Sandrine Beaulieu. This is the case with Dorothée: “I currently work in mass distribution. My departments (home / leisure) have been weakened by the crisis. In addition, I have no prospect of development in my company and I no longer agree with the organization’s decisions of the chain (automation of checkouts, openings on public holidays and Sundays, etc.). I am approaching my forties and the time has come for me to take stock of skills ”.

If the French no longer hesitate to take this step, it is also because it is easier than a few years ago, analyzes Bernard Monteil, member of the board of the Federation of vocational training: “Since the law” Avenir professionnel 2018 ”, employees can use their personal training account (CPF) without an intermediary. They can do a check-up without talking to their employer and feel much more free to do so ”. Especially since they can easily afford it: “A balance sheet costs on average 2,000 euros, and employees generally have enough money in the CPF to finance it”, observes Jérémy Plasseraud, manager of Maformation.fr, platform networking between candidates and training organizations.

But for the process to be useful, it is still necessary to devote time to it, insists Bernard Monteil: “The results are spread over two to four months. Because for it to be effective, it is necessary to leave a period of maturation between two interviews between the consultant and his client ”. “The latter must also carry out research, respond to psychotechnical tests, make contacts …”, adds Sandrine Beaulieu. The relationship between the consultant and his client must also work: “Because generally, people who carry out an assessment have lost self-confidence. They have the impression of being zero, and that their experience will not serve them to retrain. The consultant must make them aware that their skills can be transferred to other professions, ”continues Sandrine Beaulieu.

In the majority of cases, the alchemy takes place and the work bears fruit: “People know each other better afterwards, know what they expect from their job and have a real project for the years to come”, notes Jérémy Plasseraud. . “In three quarters of cases, the results lead to training, either to develop in his profession or to change it. And in a quarter of cases, people are comforted in their profession, but are considering a change of environment (department or company), ”adds Bernard Monteil. A satisfaction to which Dorothée can testify: “I was able to take stock and discover that human resources attracted me enormously. A reconversion project confirmed, in particular by personality tests during my assessment. I submitted a professional transition file in order to finance training during my working time. To put the odds on my side, I am also starting a remote payroll manager training course thanks to my CPF ”.

Sophie has also found a new way : “ Today, I am training to become a human resources assistant. I like it a lot and I think that this job is not likely to experience the same crisis as the one I had before … “To Alphonsine too, the results gave wings:” It emerged that I had the skills to manager in the early childhood sector. I therefore wish to open a micro-nursery type structure. The trainer gave me lots of information about creation aids, it’s really great!
