The name Yoram Gross is still very popular in Australia today. The cartoon characters of the late film producer are also unforgettable in Germany. A look back at the 95th birthday.

Today would be the 95th birthday of the children’s film producer Yoram Gross, who died in 2015. A name that should only mean something to a few people in Germany. All the more well-known, however, are the cartoon characters, such as the mouse Blinky Bill, which the Australian once created.

Yoram Gross: A film career in retrospect

Yoram Gross was born in Poland on October 18, 1926. At the age of 18, Gross was on the historically known list of Oskar Schindler. The Gross family managed to escape from occupied Poland on their own. On their escape route to Israel, they found 72 hiding places in order to escape the Nazis.

After Yoram Gross emigrated to Australia in 1968, he opened the “Yoram Gross Film Studios” there. The productions of the famous characters “Blinky-Bill” and “Dot and the Kangaroo” sprang from these. The film studio still exists today under the name “Flying Bark Productions” and continues to produce family entertainment and cartoons.
