Around ten months after the suspension of a priest on suspicion of sexual misconduct, Würzburg Bishop Franz Jung has lifted his ban on serving. The District Court of Obernburg had previously acquitted the priest of allegations of sexual misconduct towards an adult, the Diocese of Würzburg announced. The canonical investigation was also discontinued. While the priest lives in a religious community at his own request until April, a decision will be made about his future assignment. The clergyman was accused in February 2022 of assaulting an adult. According to the announcement at the time, third parties reported the attack to the diocese and filed a criminal complaint against the priest. The canonical preliminary investigation was then initiated by Bishop Jung.
