Würmtal – Documents on the history in the network – District of Munich

The Planegger community archive is gradually presenting documents from its inventory on the Internet. Two collections on local development and the history of the Würm Valley from the first half of the 20th century that are interesting beyond the municipal boundaries make the start: These are the “Walter Sartorius Collection” and the stock of the former “Planegg-Krailling Beautification Association”.

Walter Sartorius (1875 to 1937) lived in Planegg for almost four decades. He made a special effort to develop the place. A number of so-called “modern historicising” monuments in the Würmtal and south of Munich go back to him and his work, including the old Planegg elementary school, which has just been renovated for around 14 million euros. Sartorius was on the board of directors of the construction company for family houses and villas, Heimstättengesellschaft mbH, and a leading member of the Planegg-Krailling beautification association. He bequeathed his private Würmtal collection with pictures, newspaper clippings, maps and texts to the Planegg municipal archive. The entire collection has now been digitized and is open to the public (http://digitalarchiv.archiv-planegg.de or www.planegg.de/digitale-bestaende).

In the summer of 2021, the Planegg municipal archive successfully applied for financial support for the planned digitization project on local history. With the grants from the “Knowledge Change” program of the German Library Association, which is funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, it was possible to purchase a professional archive scanner, special software and an extended storage medium. According to the head of the archive, Barbara Reinicke, the documents on local history that have now been put online are the first to be digitized.
