Wrong heating as a fatality?: Mother and two sons found dead in Austria

Wrong heating as a fatality?
Mother and two sons found dead in Austria

In a town in Styria, a goods deliverer finds three lifeless people. After investigating the site and calling in an expert, the police assume that an incorrect heating design led to the death of the 90-year-old woman and her two sons.

Three people have been found dead in a house in Austria. As the police said, the type of heating “with a high degree of probability” is responsible for the death of the 90-year-old woman and her two sons aged 67 and 68.

The residents of the house started an emergency power generator in the basement, “to which they in turn connected a fan heater. Due to the lack of fresh air supply, the house filled with toxic exhaust gases,” said the police.

There is no evidence of a violent crime. The time of death is the past Saturday afternoon. An employee of a delivery service found the lifeless people in the family house in the municipality of Fischbach in Styria on Monday and informed the emergency services.

The exhaust gases must have come from the emergency generator. Devices of this type should be set up in such a way that exhaust gases cannot enter living areas. Electric fan heaters usually do not emit any exhaust fumes. With them, due to the heat development, precautions must be taken with regard to the risk of fire.
