On February 3rd, around 150,000 of you demonstrated against right-wing extremists in Berlin. You demonstrated against disgusting extremism all over Germany. Sockpuppet accounts, bots and trolls amplify a hateful online minority, as does a press fascinated by two-man competition and sensational threats, which can sometimes act as a multiplier. But in real life, at a demonstration, democracy doesn’t feel so overwhelmed, so easy to miss. Intersectional solidarity surrounds you. They took that powerful step that activist Daniel Ellsberg wrote about – the one of leaving the sidewalk and joining the street protest. Whose streets? Our streets. That is nice.
