82nd World Cup victory: US ski star Mikaela Shiffrin sets a record. Things didn’t go so well for the German starters in the giant slalom.

Skiing superstar Mikaela Shiffrin has equaled Lindsey Vonn’s record with her 82nd World Cup win.

The 27-year-old American won the giant slalom in Kranjska Gora ahead of Italy’s Federica Brignone and Lara Gut-Behrami of Switzerland. Two Olympic victories, six world championship titles and 82 successes in the World Cup underpin Shiffrin’s supremacy in alpine skiing.

Since her downhill success in 2018, the American Vonn has led the all-time best list for women. The Swedish ex-ski star Ingemar Stenmark still holds the all-time record for men with 86 victories. Shiffrin, who has already celebrated her eighth success of the season in Slovenia, should soon reach this mark as well.

As in the first giant slalom on Saturday, the German starters Lena Dürr and Jessica Hilzinger missed the final round of the top 30.
