World Cup in Ruhpolding
Biathlete Strelow mass start eighth – squall wins again
At the World Cup in Ruhpolding, only one German biathlete made it into the top ten in the mass start race. Victory goes to the favourite
At the end of the Biathlon Home World Cup in Ruhpolding, the German biathletes clearly missed the podium places in the mass start.
Best of the Germans, who often faltered at the shooting range, over the 15 kilometers was Justus Strelow in eighth place. The 26-year-old had one penalty, 1:00.1 behind the leader.
“The last races didn’t go as I had imagined. I just wanted to concentrate on myself, and I managed to do that today,” said Strelow on ARD.
Norwegians dominant – Germans defeated
Once again the Norwegians dominated the action: The overall World Cup leader Johannes Thingnes Bö secured his ninth success of the season in front of 19,000 spectators in the Chiemgau Arena despite three penalties.
He relegated his teammates Vjetle Sjastad Christiansen (2/+ 19.3 seconds) and Sturla Holm Laegreid (2/+ 35.3) to second and third place. Fourth was Bö’s older brother Tarjei. Johannes Thingnes Bö had already won the individual race, and the Scandinavians also prevailed in the relay ahead of Germany.
Benedikt Doll had to settle for 15th place after five penalties. “The skis were outstanding today. It’s a shame if you can’t use them. Five mistakes are just too many, it was a bit lacking in ease,” said the disappointed Doll, who had the second best run time behind winner Bö. Roman Rees (3) was 22nd, David Zobel (3) 24th, Johannes Kühn (6) finished 27th of the 30 starters.
