The German ski jumpers have reported back to the top of the world after the debacle at the Four Hills Tournament. Markus Eisenbichler, Philipp Raimund, Karl Geiger and Andreas Wellinger finished third with 1144.4 points in the first Team World Cup of the season in Zakopane, Poland.

In front of the enthusiastic fans, Austria was the strongest team with 1151.5 points. Host Poland finished second with one point less (1150.5).

“We’re happy that we’ve made it back to the top. But there are still reserves, we left a lot behind,” said national coach Stefan Horngacher on ARD.

Eisenbichler: “I knocked out another one”

After the first round, the German quartet was already in third place behind Poland and Austria. The longest jumps were achieved by Eisenbichler with 131 and Geiger with 136 meters. Only Wellinger, who was convincing in the qualification the day before, missed his jump a bit.

In the second round, the greatly improved Eisenbichler showed the longest jump of 140 meters. “I’m in a good mood. I hit another one. I didn’t want to disappoint the team either,” said the 31-year-old.

Geiger also managed another set of 138 meters. “A day like today is really good. It was great fun,” said the 29-year-old. On Sunday there will be an individual competition. “We want to show such jumps again,” said Geiger.
