World Cup 2022: Leckie, Ryan, Irvine: the faces of the Australian sensation

It was the first sensational exit from the World Cup in Qatar. The Australians sent home favorites Denmark in their second win on the last day of the group match. In the 60th minute, former Hertha, Ingolstadt and FSV Frankfurt player Mathew Leckie scored with a fine individual performance to make it 1-0 for the team from Down Under.

Who are these Socceroos? “We don’t have any superstars or world-class players,” said Jackson Irvine of German second division side FC St. Pauli. “But we have great faith in each other and in everyone’s support.”

Now a chunk is waiting for Australia

The midfielder is one of the faces of the Australians, who are in a World Cup round of 16 for the first time in 16 years – and are causing ecstasy at home.

In the round of 16 on Saturday (8 p.m., magenta and in the star-Live ticker), however, a tough chunk awaits: Title co-favorite Argentina with world star Lionel Messi.
