On day nine of the World Cup in Qatar, Brazil and Portugal are aiming for their second victories in the preliminary round. Before that, Serbia and Cameroon, like Ghana and South Korea, played thrilling matches.

Brazil can do it without Neymar. The top favorite fought a 1-0 (0-0) win against Switzerland on Monday evening and thus secured entry into the round of 16 of the World Cup. Casemiro (83rd minute) scored the acclaimed winner for the Seleção just before the end of the game, which is now inevitable in the knockout phase of the tournament in Qatar with six points in Group G. In the final preliminary round game, the Brazilians meet Cameroon on Friday. The Swiss also have good chances and are fighting in the last group game against Serbia for the round of 16.

In front of 43,649 spectators at the Stadion 974 in Doha, the match was similar to the Brazilians’ opening match against Serbia (2-0). The Seleção dominated the action, but did not become dangerous. In addition, she repeatedly made slight mistakes in the structure. But that was also due to the disciplined defending Swiss.

Brazil, leaders in Group G with six points before the last matchday next Friday, can no longer be relegated from one of the top two places. Switzerland (3), Cameroon and Serbia follow with one point each. Brazil will play against Cameroon, Switzerland against Serbia.

South Korea – Ghana 2:3

Lots of goals, spectacular twists and turns and lots of suspense – of all four teams that have hitherto been rather inconspicuous caused a spectacle on the ninth day of the World Cup in Qatar. Both the 3:2 (2:0) from Ghana over South Korea and the 3:3 (3:1) between Serbia and Cameroon offered the highest entertainment value. Ghana has the best chances of the quartet to reach the round of 16 after winning the World Cup for the first time since 2010.

Coach Otto Addo’s team won their second group game against South Korea 3-2 (2-0) on Monday. Mohammed Salisu (24th minute) and Mohammed Kudus (34th/68th) scored for the Black Stars at the Education Stadium in al Rajjan. The South Korean goals scored in front of 43,983 spectators Gue Sung Cho (58th/61st). After the final whistle, South Korea’s coach Paulo Bento saw the red card. Ghana are back in the running in Group H with three points. The four-time African champions last survived the preliminary round in 2010. South Korea, on the other hand, is about to be eliminated from the preliminary round for the ninth time in its eleventh World Cup appearance.

Serbia – Cameroon 3:3

Captain Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has given Cameroon at least a minimal chance of progressing to the World Cup in Qatar. The FC Bayern Munich striker scored the equalizer in the crazy 3:3 (1:3) against Serbia in the second group game (66th). However, the “Indomitable Lions”, whose coach Rigobert Song had openly dreamed of the semi-finals before the tournament, need a win against tournament favorites Brazil to still have a chance of reaching the round of 16.

Serbia gambled away two-goal lead

In front of 39,789 spectators, the Serbs, who lost 2-0 to Brazil, lost a 3-1 lead in front of 39,789 spectators and thus lost a good starting position for the final group game against Switzerland. After central defender Jean-Charles Castelletto had given Cameroon the lead in the 29th minute, defensive talent Strahinja Pavlovic (21st) from RB Salzburg (45th + 1) turned as the youngest Serbian World Cup goalscorer ever, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (45th .+3) and Aleksandar Mitrovic (53.) started the game. But Cameroon came back with a double strike from Joker Vincent Aboubakar (64th) and Choupo-Moting.
