Wolfgang Streeck’s book “Between Globalism and Democracy” – Culture

Anyone who has valued the previous books by the Cologne sociologist Wolfgang Streeck for their precise description of the crisis and the sometimes humorous criticism of the time will be disappointed after reading this book. An alternative to the globalized, capitalist world is to be designed in it, but the language sinks into jargon, the arguments are not convincing and the ideas are ideological, resentment-laden private opinion. The basic idea, staged with a lot of conceptual theater, is simple: The masses can only protect themselves against the undemocratic “globalism” of digital capitalism by realizing their democratic rights of participation in the nation state, because only it can implement protectionism.
