  • Until May 16 inclusive, the vaccination center in Hall 8 of the former Parc des Expositions, in Toulouse, opens its doors until 11 p.m. by appointment and will vaccinate up to 5,000 people per day.
  • As of June 7, its capacity will double thanks to the opening of Hall 7, next door.
  • At the same time, intermediate vaccination centers will be set up in Haute-Garonne, and ephemeral screening centers will be set up, in particular at the Matabiau station.

“We are going to vaccinate with a vengeance,” assures the prefect of Haute-Garonne, Etienne Guyot. An expression that has taken on its full meaning in Hall 8 of the former Toulouse Exhibition Center for several days. But which has taken on its full dimension since Friday, when the extended hours were introduced until 11 p.m.on appointment. If since April 7, more than 2,000 doses were injected every day in this building on the island of Ramier, now this figure has increased to 5,000.

“Until May 16 inclusive, Hall 8 will be open until 11 pm, with two vaccination lines, one for the Pfizer vaccine, the other for Moderna. Over ten days, we will thus vaccinate nearly 50,000 people “, explains the representative of the State who responds to the operation” All on the bridge “.

And from June 7, this system will be doubled, since hall 7 next door will also be open, in the meantime the eligibility criteria have been widened. After considering setting up a second vaccinodrome on other sites, the authorities have chosen to group them together in the same place. “It’s so practical, it doesn’t have to be more complicated. People who know the place can park there easily and that makes it possible to pool together, ”notes the mayor of the Pink City, Jean-Luc Moudenc, for his part.

Relaunching student recruitment

Today, up to 300 people are mobilized every day on the site, whether they are professionals from the Samu, firefighters or Civil Security. But also a large number of students, from very different backgrounds. To cope with the increase in load, the CHU will relaunch its recruitment campaign among these young people, 1,200 of whom already have a contract with the CHU.

“The idea is to have a pool on the two centers large enough not to exhaust the students, so that they can rest and it is out of the question to jeopardize their studies. Calling on them also makes it possible to deal with the precariousness of students linked to the crisis, which is not only financial, here they have the feeling of being useful ”, testifies Julie Oudet, doctor of Samu who ensures, in particular their training.

When they follow a health course, they are assigned to vaccination, those who come from other sectors do the secretarial work or “sorting” patients, redirect the 100 to 150 patients who come every day and do not fit in. the eligibility criteria. “And we have great feedback, people are happy, when they come back for their second injection, they often bring us sweets,” says Nicolas Lunel, student referent.

While Hall 8 is ramping up, this is also the case in the other centers of the Ville Rose and Haute-Garonne. Today there are 36 vaccination centers. “We are going to open intermediate centers in June of greater capacity”, announces the prefect of Haute-Garonne. The center installed at the Pierre-Baudis convention center will also go from 250 injections per day to 750 in June.

“We will go from 35,000 doses per month to more than 70,000 doses in Haute-Garonne, half of which in Toulouse. With 240 positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants, we have one of the lowest incidence rates in the region. We must continue to screen and be inventive. We are going to carry out screening operations in transit areas, for example by installing a barnum next to Hall 8, at Matabiau station and in a square in Toulouse, ”concludes Isabelle Redini of the Regional Health Agency.
