Wirecard trial: Why Markus Braun remains in custody – Economy

The ex-Wirecard boss wants to get out of custody, but the court refuses. The reasoning provides a rare insight into how the judges viewed the case.

If it were up to Markus Braun and his defense lawyers, he would never have had to be in custody. Or at least the former Wirecard boss would have been out of the Stadelheim correctional facility long ago, at least since August. In the last meeting before the summer break, Braun’s defense lawyers in the Wirecard trial once again called for his release from prison – obviously to the displeasure of the presiding judge, Markus Födisch. Because something like this has to be decided quickly, vacation or not. They are now over – and Braun is still being “produced” from custody, as it is called in court language.
