Winter hiking in Germany: Beautiful destinations in every federal state

It’s the same game every year: as soon as winter arrives and it gets cold outside, many of us become couch potatoes. Then the Sunday walk or the hiking trip at the weekend is only too happy to be exchanged for Netflix, a sofa and a hot-water bottle. There are also great excursion destinations and hiking trails in winter – all over Germany.

In addition to real classics such as the Harz National Park in Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, or the many hiking areas in the Bavarian Allgäu, there are wonderful winter hiking trails waiting to be discovered in all federal states. Sometimes they are already known as a destination for tourists, sometimes they are more like insider tips among locals.

Winter hiking in the mountains or by the sea

In every federal state, we looked for great routes for hikes that are also fun in winter. All routes can be hiked within a day, they are winterproof and offer a beautiful landscape even in winter. In our photo series you will therefore find a tip for each individual federal state. We’ll send you up mountains, into forests and, yes, to the sea too.

By the way: If you have found a new destination for the next day in nature instead of on the sofa, then think about the right luggage for a hike through the cold. This includes, for example, sunglasses, non-slip shoes and, depending on the incline of the hiking trail, a hiking stick for better grip. Of course, tea, hand warmers and a good mood can’t hurt either.
