Berlin (dpa / tmn) – Sometimes the eyes prefer it darker, even on the computer. In Windows 10 and Windows 11, a dark mode called Dark Mode can be activated in the system settings.
It displays system bars and buttons in shades of gray and black. Many people find this more pleasant in dark surroundings, and it sometimes also saves a little power. Thats how it works:
- Go to system settings. You can find it via the gear icon in the start bar.
- Select “Personalization” in the left column.
- Now make a selection under “Color”. Windows 10 hides the dark mode under “Color”, in Windows 11 the setting is called “Select mode”.
- Finished. If you like, you can now also adjust the accent colors of the system or color buttons and frames in a desired color.
The color mode setting also affects other installed programs. Many of them are based on the color mode of the system in their display.
It is therefore possible that other programs are suddenly displayed with dark program bars after switching to dark mode. If you don’t like it, you can change it in the settings of the respective program.
If you’re still using Windows 7, you don’t need to look for the setting: it’s not there.
