Wind farm connection – order worth billions for Siemens – Economy

A major order from the network operator Tennet brings Siemens Energy billions in revenue. It is about the connection of wind farms in the German North Sea, as the group announced on Thursday. The order value for the consortium of Siemens Energy and Dragados Offshore totals almost seven billion euros. In industry circles, it is expected that the sum will be divided equally between the two partners. The three grid connections should each have two gigawatts of transmission capacity. Siemens Energy supplies huge converters that convert the alternating current generated by the wind turbines into high-voltage direct current for low-loss transport over long distances – and then back into alternating current for the German high-voltage grid.
