Will Xavi be the new coach at FC Barcelona? Al-Sadd does not want to give immediate clearance
Xavi is considered the top candidate to succeed Ronald Koeman at FC Barcelona. His current club Al-Sadd still wants to keep him.
The Qatari club Al-Sadd does not want to give their head coach Xavi clearance for an immediate move to their club, FC Barcelona.
“The club’s position was clear from the start: we are determined to keep our coach Xavi with us and we cannot allow him to leave at this crucial point in the season,” said Al-Sadd managing director Turki Al-Ali Quoted on the club’s Twitter account. Al-Ali also confirmed that a delegation from FC Barcelona had traveled to the Persian Gulf for negotiations: “We appreciate and respect the visit.”
Xavi new coach at Barca? Laporta: “Have other candidates too”
According to matching media reports, Xavi should already be in agreement with the Blaugrana on the terms of the contract. After the dismissal of Ronald Koeman, club icon Xavi is the clear favorite to coach the Catalans. The former midfield strategist is a native of Barca, played for the traditional club from 1991 to 2015 before moving to Al-Sadd FC. The 41-year-old has been a trainer there since 2019 and is still contractually bound until 2023.
Barcelona President Joan Laporta last played poker publicly. “We also have other candidates on the list,” said the club boss.
