Wiesn boss bans song after Sylt scandal: “Roth has no idea”

How should we deal with the scandalous song “L’Amour Toujours” in the future? Wiesn boss Clemens Baumgärtner explains his position on the matter – and has a clear message for Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth.

After a video went viral showing young people singing right-wing extremist slogans to the melody of the party song “L’Amour Toujour” by Gigi D’Agostino, Germany is discussing how to deal with the song. Can you still listen to it without immediately having the rewritten lines in your head? Is humming the melody a code for right-wing extremist ideas? Or should the song be viewed as innocent and allowed to continue? Culture Minister Claudia Roth of the Green Party argued that it would be better to combat right-wing extremist tendencies in the population rather than imposing bans. Clemens Baumgärtner, head of the Munich Oktoberfest, has a different stance.
