The problem of the book “The Betrayal of Anne Frank” goes far beyond an ordinary news story, and that has not been said clearly enough. The problem is that not only a sensationalist “cold case team” but also a large number of experienced literary agents, publishers, program makers and editors apparently lacked any judgment. Or how else does one get the idea that the circumstances of Anne Frank’s arrest could be told and marketed as easily as the manhunt for some true crime story, complete with – suspense, suspense – pixelated cover?
