The paths that an election campaign takes can be very peculiar. Later defeats sometimes look like victories for a long time; victories often seem completely unthinkable shortly before election day. Also because it has long been clear that the precision of the predictions made by electoral and opinion research institutes decreases significantly when more and more voters decide later and later who to vote for. Too brash judgments about the current federal election campaign and its protagonists are therefore a delicate matter.
