Its base is already “decorated” with some more or less successful paintings. Below, the collage of a deer seems very frail to brighten up the large 17-meter-high facade. Designed by the architect Georges Maillols, known in Rennes for having designed the Horizons or the Barre Saint-Just, the building located at 59 rue de Saint-Malo is waiting to be repainted. To color and brighten up its 225 m² gray and white façade, the city of Rennes launched a call for projects in partnership with the lessor Archipel Habitat. Professional artists, whether alone or in a group, wishing to tackle this wall are invited to send their presentation project before April 18 to the following address: [email protected].
An initiative that is part of the RUE system
The eight-story building is not the first to be open to the creativity of local artists. In recent years, social landlords have regularly called on street-art enthusiasts to embellish walls or car parks.
This initiative launched by the city is part of the device called RUE for “Urban Expression Network” which offers around thirty walls where free expression is authorized and open to graffiti artists.
