Günther Jauch has been conducting “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” since 1999. Now the moderator has voiced an interesting idea for a new joker.

The “3 million week” of the quiz show “Who wants to be a millionaire?” is currently taking place on RTL. instead of. In addition to the celebrity and gambler editions, this is one of the rare specials of the format that has existed since 1999. According to moderator Günther Jauch (67) is precisely this loyalty to the origin of the reason for the ongoing success – because “the basic idea has been retained for 24 years to this day”. In conversation with the broadcaster, however, he still expressed an interesting adaptation idea that the candidates should like.

So Jauch could well imagine a new joker: “A kind of ‘second chance’ joker” would find the moderator attractive. “Candidates would then have the opportunity to skip a question. Instead, they would be asked another question, which they would then have to answer without getting out. Or they would not be allowed to use another joker when answering the second question. This creates additional pressure and I would find it exciting.”

exceptions prove the rule

However, it is important to him that the game idea is basically retained and “not tinkered with”. The past shows that some changes are well received by the public: the option to choose between risk and safety variants has long been established. With the latter option, which represents the original game rules, there is a fixed prize level at 16,000 euros. In the risk variant, which was introduced in 2007, there is no safety net in the event of a wrong answer; instead, an additional public joker can be used.

Is there something big planned for the upcoming 25th anniversary next year? Professional Jauch does not look at the cards, but knows the importance of this milestone: “We should really come up with something. After all, there are not many programs on German television that have lasted so long.”
