What happened

On New Year’s Day, at 2 p.m., a woman called 17 to “report her suicidal intentions” and said that she had “the bodies of two dead babies” at her home, says the Annecy prosecutor. . The gendarmes went “immediately on the spot and discovered, on the indication of the applicant, two bodies swaddled in a suitcase”.

Lise Bonnet adds: “Given his state of health, this person was hospitalized under duress. She is still hospitalized to this day and could not be heard by investigators. »

What the first elements of the investigation say

The Annecy public prosecutor’s office opened an investigation and entrusted it to the Annecy research brigade and to the Chambéry research section with the support of the Annecy criminal identification unit.

The autopsies were carried out on Wednesday in Grenoble. At this stage, they have not made it possible to determine the date and cause of death. The prosecutor nevertheless indicates that “the presence of an umbilical cord on one of the two bodies makes it possible to suppose that it was about a newborn”. Additional analyzes are in progress.

The 30-year-old had been living with a man for three years. The latter was placed in police custody for “concealment of corpse” Thursday morning, on his return from abroad where he had been since mid-December. He was released this Friday noon, without any charges being brought against him.

Their two children, born in 2020 and 2021, were the subject of “a provisional placement order on January 1, 2023” and “were entrusted to child welfare”, explains the Annecy prosecutor’s office. .
